Philippine Airlines, the flag carrier of the Philippines, is set to significantly upgrade its fleet with the anticipated delivery of nine Airbus A350-1000 aircraft starting in 2025. This strategic move, as announced to Manila-based media, is poised to bolster the airline’s capacity for some of the world’s longest commercial flights, signaling a new era for the airline’s global operations.

Cielo Villaluna, the spokesperson for Philippine Airlines, expressed optimism about the future of the Philippine aviation sector and the national economy, despite potential economic challenges in global markets. The airline remains committed to expanding its route network and fleet, supporting market demand, and contributing to the growth of the tourism industry.

The decision to acquire these long-range Airbus jets was finalized in May 2023, marking a significant step in enhancing Philippine Airlines’ international reach. These aircraft are not only intended to reinforce the airline’s existing routes to the United States but also to potentially reestablish connections with European destinations. The delivery of these aircraft is scheduled through 2027, with an option for the airline to acquire an additional three units if necessary.

Beyond the A350s, Philippine Airlines also has thirteen A321-200Ns on order, reflecting a concerted effort to modernize and expand its fleet. The current lineup, excluding 27 wet-leased aircraft, consists of a diverse array of models, including three A320-200s, eighteen A321-200s, six A321-200Ns, two A321-200NXs, eleven A330-300s, two A350-900s, and nine B777-300ERs. With a reach of 72 destinations across 22 countries, Philippine Airlines continues to solidify its position as a key player in international aviation, eagerly anticipating the introduction of the A350-1000s to its fleet.
