Philippine Airlines Rebrands Cargo Unit as PAL Cargo

Philippine Airlines has officially rebranded its freight and logistics division as PAL Cargo, signaling a renewed focus on the growing cargo market. The announcement was made during a launch event on June 16, 2025, in Manila.

Richard Nuttall, president of Philippine Airlines, said the rebrand aims to align the cargo division with the airline’s overall brand identity and highlight its evolving role in global logistics. “PAL Cargo is worthy of the same branding as the rest of the business,” he noted, adding that cargo is now “much more interesting than the passenger business.”

Cargo currently makes up about 5% of the airline’s total business, but the goal is to grow that share to 8-9%. In 2024, PAL’s cargo operations generated USD159.7 million of the airline’s USD3.13 billion in total revenue, reflecting a 12% year-over-year increase.

Jason Siy, vice president of PAL Cargo, emphasized the potential of the cargo segment, particularly with the continued rise of e-commerce. He acknowledged challenges such as trade disputes and tariffs but expressed optimism about steady growth.

Siy also mentioned that the airline is exploring the possibility of acquiring dedicated freighter aircraft. However, he noted that Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s limited slots currently make passenger operations more viable.

According to ch-aviation data, Philippine Airlines operates 78 aircraft across 71 airports in 20 countries. While the carrier has no dedicated freighters, it moved 52,600 tonnes of cargo in the first quarter of 2025 using its passenger fleet.
