Philippine Airlines to Receive A350-1000 Jets in Late 2025

Philippine Airlines is set to begin receiving its first Airbus A350-1000 aircraft in late 2025, according to PAL Holdings chairman Lucio Tan. Speaking at a shareholder meeting in Manila on May 30, 2025, Tan confirmed that the long-range jets will be deployed on routes to North America, enhancing the carrier’s transpacific services.
In addition to the nine A350-1000s, Philippine Airlines is expecting thirteen A321neo aircraft starting in 2026. The carrier is also planning a retrofit program for its existing A321-200 fleet as part of a broader modernization strategy. These fleet upgrades are intended to support network expansion and fuel new partnerships with global airline partners.
The airline has already invested heavily in pre-delivery payments, spending PHP20.26 billion (USD363 million) for the A350-1000s and PHP16.54 billion (USD297 million) for the A321neo aircraft. The new aircraft will play a key role in boosting Philippine Airlines’ nonstop connectivity across Asia and North America.
Tan highlighted the airline’s recent financial performance, noting a PHP4.33 billion (USD77.6 million) profit in Q1 2025, marking its 14th consecutive quarter of profitability. The result reflects a 20% year-over-year improvement and demonstrates the airline’s resilience amid global aviation challenges.
He emphasized the importance of managing costs and adapting to a competitive and evolving industry landscape. During the same meeting, Philippine Airlines also confirmed the appointment of former SriLankan Airlines CEO Richard Nuttall as president and Carlos Luis Fernandez as executive vice president and COO.
