Philippine and Alaska Airlines Launch Loyalty Tie

Philippine Airlines and Alaska Airlines have announced a groundbreaking frequent flyer partnership that allows members of both carriers to earn and redeem miles across each other’s networks. This new collaboration, unveiled in May 2025, strengthens travel options for loyal customers on transpacific and domestic routes, and deepens ties between two leading airlines in the Asia-Pacific and North American regions.
Under the agreement, Mabuhay Miles members flying on eligible Alaska Airlines flights will accrue miles based on ticket class and distance flown, while Alaska’s Mileage Plan members can earn rewards on Philippine Airlines’ Manila-based routes. This reciprocal earning structure makes Alaska the first North American loyalty partner for the Philippine flag carrier, and Philippine Airlines the 32nd global partner for Alaska. Members of both programmes will also enjoy award flight redemptions on each other’s services, allowing convenient connections between key hubs.
Brett Catlin, Alaska Airlines’ Vice President of Loyalty, Alliances and Sales, highlighted the timing of the launch. “We’re excited to make this announcement as we mark the beginning of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month,” he said. “The large Filipino communities living in Hawai‘i, California and Washington state can now travel aboard Philippine Airlines’ widebody aircraft and earn valuable Mileage Plan miles on their transpacific journeys.”
Philippine Airlines operates multiple weekly flights from Alaska’s major West Coast and Hawaiian gateways to Manila. From Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, the carrier offers five nonstop flights per week, while Seattle Tacoma International Airport sees three weekly nonstop services. On the U.S. West Coast, PAL schedules two daily nonstops from Los Angeles International Airport and a single daily nonstop from San Francisco International Airport. These flights deploy Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 aircraft, providing spacious cabins, inflight entertainment and premium lounge access for elite loyalty members.
Through the new partnership, Alaska Airlines flyers transferring in Manila can connect to dozens of additional island destinations throughout the Philippines, including Cebu, Davao and Kalibo, as well as onward services to key Asian markets. Likewise, Mabuhay Miles members traveling between Manila and U.S. points can now book itineraries that extend seamlessly to Alaska hubs and beyond, leveraging Alaska’s domestic network of over 115 destinations across 20 states.
Both airlines will integrate their loyalty portals later this year, enabling members to view, book and manage cross-carrier redemptions in a single online interface. Co-branded marketing campaigns will launch across digital channels and airport lounges, promoting special bonus mile offers and tier-qualifying flights on select routes. Joint training programmes for customer service teams are also planned to ensure a consistent, high-quality experience for frequent flyers on both carriers.
The timing of the tie-up aligns with Philippine Airlines’ expansion of its long-haul fleet and Alaska Airlines’ growth in Asia-Pacific routes. PAL recently took delivery of additional Airbus A350s, increasing capacity on its Manila–Los Angeles and Manila–San Francisco services. Alaska, meanwhile, has added new flights to Tokyo and Taipei, and is exploring further network growth in the region. The loyalty agreement adds another layer to this strategic growth, providing a compelling incentive for travelers to choose these airlines for both business and leisure travel.
Industry analysts note that such partnerships are increasingly important as airlines seek to differentiate themselves through loyalty benefits rather than relying solely on pricing. By offering reciprocal earning and redemption opportunities, Philippine Airlines and Alaska Airlines can attract high-value customers who prioritize both network reach and reward flexibility.
As the partnership rolls out, passengers on both sides of the Pacific can look forward to expanded travel choices, enhanced recognition of their loyalty, and the combined strength of two respected carriers working together to deliver seamless global connectivity.
