A shocking video has surfaced online showing a pilot covered in blood following a terrifying incident when a bird crashed through the windshield of the aircraft he was piloting. The gruesome footage captures the large bird, possibly an Andean Condor with an impressive wingspan, partially inside the cockpit as strong winds buffet the plane.

The pilot, identified as Captain Ariel Valiente from Ecuador, appears to be dressed as a fighter pilot despite flying a Thrush 510P aircraft used for crop spraying. During the distressing footage, Captain Valiente turns the camera on himself, revealing his bloodied face, but it remains uncertain whether the blood belongs to him or the unfortunate bird.

The incident is believed to have occurred in Vinces, Los Ríos Province. Despite the harrowing situation, reports indicate that Captain Valiente managed to land the plane safely, and fortunately, he was not injured. However, tragically, the bird did not survive the collision.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has highlighted that many pilots may not be aware of the potential dangers posed by collisions with soft-feathered birds. The agency advises that if the windshield is compromised, the pilot should reduce airspeed to minimize pressure on the windshield.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the hazards faced by pilots during flight and the importance of being prepared for unexpected encounters with wildlife.
