Play Airlines Enhances Passenger Experience with Bluebox’s Onboard Retail Technology
Play Airlines, an Icelandic low-cost carrier, has fully integrated Bluebox’s innovative digital retail system, Blueview, across its fleet of 10 Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft after a successful trial period. This deployment aims to boost ancillary revenue by offering passengers an enhanced in-flight shopping experience.
The system operates on the Bluebox Wow portable wireless network, allowing passengers to use their own devices to order from Play’s bistro and retail catalog securely. Integration with Most, the airline’s retailing partner, ensures a seamless connection between ordering and payment platforms. Passengers have embraced the ability to order in-flight meals and products at their convenience, particularly on overnight flights.
Sonja Arnórsdóttir, CCO of Play Airlines, highlighted the positive feedback from both passengers and crew during the trial. The success was measured not only in increased revenue but also in the added convenience for passengers and the robust support from the Bluebox team.
In addition to retail services, Play’s deployment of Blueview includes entertainment options like games, a moving map, and a passenger feedback feature. Kevin Birchmore, VP of global sales at Bluebox, noted that the full implementation focuses on refining these services and exploring new enhancements that will further benefit Play Airlines and its customers. Discussions are already in progress to expand media offerings and other ancillary services, promising an exciting future for onboard passenger experiences.
