Icelandic low-cost carrier PLAY Airlines has announced an expansion of its PLAY Connect online booking platform, integrating new airline partner easyJet. This collaboration, made possible through advanced interlining technology developed by software firm Dohop, aims to enhance travel options for PLAY’s customers.

Based in Reykjavik, Iceland, Dohop specializes in alternative interline solutions, enabling airlines to create seamless and profitable air-to-air and air-to-ground partnerships. The platform allows customers to book reservations across a wide array of air and land-based partners using a single booking reference.

Founded in 2004, Dohop now supports interline connections with over 85 airlines and travel providers, including major names like easyJet, Transavia, Air France, Vueling, and Air Transat, alongside various ground transport options. Interlining refers to the combination of two travel itineraries under one booking reference, simplifying the travel process for customers.

The new partnership with easyJet, which was Dohop’s first airline partner, aligns with PLAY’s strategy to expand travel options for customers, offering seamless access to an increased number of destinations across Europe and beyond. With easyJet’s inclusion, PLAY Connect now facilitates convenient connections to over 350 unique city pairs, utilizing both its own flights and those operated by easyJet.

PLAY Connect also enables the Reykjavik-based airline to provide single-ticket itineraries to a broad range of global destinations, extending well beyond its existing network. According to a Dohop statement, “Alternative interlining is a transformative approach in today’s airline industry, allowing carriers like PLAY to present more flexible and diverse travel options without relying on traditional interline agreements.” By leveraging Dohop’s technology, PLAY Connect can enhance customer satisfaction with a more streamlined booking experience while catering to the increasing demand for unique travel itineraries.

Tatiana Shirokova, Head of Distribution at PLAY Airlines, expressed enthusiasm about the new partnership, stating, “With Dohop’s alternative interlining technology, we are not just expanding our network; we’re transforming the way our customers travel. The inclusion of easyJet into PLAY Connect allows us to provide an extensive range of destinations while ensuring a seamless and cost-effective travel experience.”

Dawn Hardwick, easyJet’s Global Lead for Strategic Airline Partnerships and Connectivity, emphasized the value of this partnership for customers. “At easyJet, we’re committed to making travel as easy as possible while providing great value and more choice. We are delighted to be on the PLAY Connect platform. With our strong presence at Europe’s leading airports, we can now offer connecting passengers on PLAY Airlines greater access to our route network at competitive fares.”

PLAY Airlines, which commenced operations in June 2021, currently serves over 40 destinations between Europe and North America via Iceland. The airline boasts one of the youngest fleets in Europe, comprising 10 Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft. In 2023, PLAY carried 1.5 million passengers with an average load factor of 83.4%. As it continues to grow, the airline plans to expand its partnerships with more carriers from the USA, Canada, the Middle East, LATAM, and Asia, further enhancing its travel offerings.
