Play Europe, the Maltese subsidiary of PLAY (Iceland), has inducted its first A321neo and obtained its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) on March 27, 2025. The aircraft, 9H-PEA (msn 8008), previously operated as TF-AEW with the Icelandic parent company, was ferried from Reykjavik Keflavik to Ostrava on March 25, 2025. It continued to Nottingham East Midlands under the new operator’s ‘FPE’ code on March 28.

Play Europe will focus on ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) operations, exclusively operating for other carriers. All in-house services, such as ground handling and customer service, will remain under the Icelandic certificate. The Maltese subsidiary plans to add at least two more A321neo aircraft to fulfill a recently announced two-year contract with an unnamed Eastern European carrier, which includes a total of three A321neo aircraft.

Chief Executive Einar Örn Ólafsson emphasized that these leasing projects will help generate profitability in line with previous forecasts, improving operational predictability and providing a positive financial outlook for PLAY.

Play Europe is wholly owned by the Icelandic parent, with Ólafsson serving as CEO of both companies. PLAY’s current fleet includes six A320-200Ns, two remaining A321-200Ns, and one A321-200NX, as noted by the ch-aviation fleet module.
