At Routes Europe 2024, Polish Airports S.A. (PPL S.A.) showcased Poland’s rising profile as a transfer hub and outlined ambitious plans for aviation growth across the country.

PPL S.A., a pivotal player in Poland’s aviation infrastructure, oversees several key airports including Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), the largest in Poland and a strategic base for LOT Polish Airlines. This hub facilitates extensive international connectivity and attracts airlines offering long-haul services.

In 2023, WAW handled 18.5 million passengers, and this year, it is expected to surpass pre-pandemic levels with projections reaching 20.5 million passengers. This growth is bolstered by new routes, such as LOT Polish Airlines’ recent launch of 3X-weekly flights to Riyadh and its inaugural service to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The airline also resumed daily flights to Athens and expanded its reach in Romania with flights to Oradea.

Antoni Falkowski, Polish ambassador to Denmark, expressed optimism about Poland’s aviation sector, emphasizing Warsaw’s role as a vital transfer hub. “We are pleased with the increasing air traffic in Poland. Our goal is to open more direct routes to attract more visitors across Poland,” Falkowski stated during Routes Europe 2024.

Beyond Warsaw Chopin Airport, PPL S.A. manages Warsaw Radom Airport (RDO), Zielona Góra Babimost Airport (IEG), and holds shares in major regional airports like Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków, Poznań, Rzeszów, and Wrocław. Andrzej Iłków, CEO of PPL S.A., highlighted their commitment to showcasing Poland’s aviation future, inviting the European community to explore the country’s diverse airport network and vibrant destinations.

Participation at Routes Europe 2024 provided PPL S.A. with a platform to promote Poland as a premier aviation destination and engage with airlines to enhance connectivity, reinforcing its strategic position in Europe’s aviation landscape.
