Ponant Explorations is set to debut a new Baja California itinerary in winter 2027, offering travelers a unique exploration of Mexico’s Sea of Cortez. The new sailing, “Exploration in the Heart of Baja California,” was developed in collaboration with local communities over three years. It will operate from January through March 2027 aboard the 184-guest Le Bellot.

A special departure, “Baja and the Sea of Cortez: In Search of the Great Whales,” is scheduled for February 10-20, 2027, in partnership with Smithsonian Journeys. Two Smithsonian experts will join the voyage, providing in-depth insights into the region’s wildlife, geology, and cultural history.

The round-trip itinerary from Cabo San Lucas offers multiple excursions, including snorkeling, boating, and guided nature hikes. Guests will have the chance to encounter a rich variety of marine life, such as gray whales in Bahia Magdalena and Guerrero Negro, humpback and blue whales in Loreto Bay National Park, and sea lions near Isla Coronado and Los Islotes. Sightings may also include orcas, bottlenose dolphins, Mobula rays, reef fish, frigatebirds, and blue-footed or brown boobies.

Samuel Chamberlain, CEO of Ponant Explorations Group for the Americas, emphasized that the new Baja California cruise highlights the company’s commitment to environmental respect, local partnerships, and immersive education. He noted that the destination offers an extraordinary escape close to home, combining biodiversity, culture, and Ponant’s signature French hospitality.
