Port Canaveral Authority proudly announces its eighth consecutive Green Marine recertification, reaffirming its commitment to environmental stewardship in port operations. The prestigious award was presented at the GreenTech2024 environmental conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia, highlighting the Port’s ongoing dedication to sustainable practices.

“Port Canaveral has consistently upheld rigorous environmental standards and remains steadfast in our pursuit of long-term sustainability goals,” stated Capt. John Murray, Port CEO. “This re-certification by Green Marine reflects the excellence of our environmental program and the dedication of our team to implementing best practices.”

As one of only 32 seaports in the U.S. and one of three in Florida to earn the Green Marine distinction, Port Canaveral continues to set benchmarks in environmental performance. The initial certification in 2016 allowed the Port to utilize Green Marine’s detailed criteria to enhance its environmental practices.

“Once again, for the eighth consecutive year, Port Canaveral has demonstrated leadership by exceeding compliance across all applicable indicators,” noted David Bolduc, President and CEO of Green Marine. “Achieving the highest level 5 for spill prevention underscores Port Canaveral’s commitment to environmental excellence.”

Bob Musser, Senior Director of Environmental at Port Canaveral, accepted the certification at the conference, emphasizing the Port’s continuous improvement through the program. “Over the past eight years, we have continuously elevated our environmental performance, striving to implement greener practices with each evaluation,” Musser remarked.

Green Marine advocates voluntary measures to enhance environmental performance, focusing on areas such as aquatic invasive species, greenhouse gases, spill prevention, stormwater and waste management, underwater noise, community impacts, and environmental leadership. The certification process includes annual self-evaluation and biennial third-party verification, enhancing industry awareness and promoting environmental benefits.

Port Canaveral’s commitment to environmental sustainability through Green Marine certification underscores its leadership in maritime environmental stewardship, setting a benchmark for port operations across the United States.
