Cruisers visiting Port Canaveral will soon have the convenience of recharging their electric vehicles with the installation of six state-of-the-art fast-charging stations. Located in the Cove District parking lot, about 50 miles east of downtown Orlando, these FPL EVolution Level 3 charging stations are set to be operational within the next year.

The project, recently approved by the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners, is a collaborative effort with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), underscoring the port’s commitment to environmental stewardship. One of the charging stations will be wheelchair accessible, ensuring accessibility for all travelers.

According to Bob Musser, Port Canaveral’s senior environmental director, “For a few years, we’ve noticed growing interest from port visitors who operate electric vehicles. These stations will offer the option to top off the charge before hitting the road after enjoying our port.”

Fast-charging stations like these are significantly faster, up to 15 times, compared to the more common Level 2 charging stations. This rapid charging capability enhances the convenience for travelers, allowing them to quickly recharge their electric vehicles while enjoying the port’s amenities.

Port Canaveral, recognized as one of the world’s busiest cruise ports, has experienced remarkable growth, welcoming a record-breaking 6.8 million cruise passengers during fiscal year 2023. The port, with 906 ship calls and 13 vessels as homeports, generated $158 million in revenue from cruise operations. It has emerged as an economic powerhouse, contributing $6.1 billion to Florida’s economy and generating $189.5 million in state and local tax revenue.

The collaboration with FPL for the installation of fast-charging stations aligns seamlessly with the port’s commitment to sustainability and growth. As part of ongoing initiatives, Port Canaveral continues to enhance its facilities to meet the evolving needs of modern travelers, establishing itself as a leading destination for both cruise enthusiasts and environmentally conscious visitors alike.

With these new fast-charging stations, Port Canaveral aims to further enhance the travel experience for electric vehicle users, providing a reliable and efficient solution for cruisers seeking a sustainable journey.
