Porter Boosts Pilot Training with New E195-E2 Simulator
Porter Airlines is enhancing its pilot training capabilities through a new partnership with Embraer CAE Training Services (ECTS), which has introduced a state-of-the-art Embraer E195-E2 full-flight simulator in Montreal. This move supports Porter’s rapid fleet expansion, as the airline has already added 46 Embraer E195-E2 jets, with plans to grow that number to 100 in the near future.
The newly deployed simulator is part of the advanced 7000XR Series and includes the cutting-edge CAE Prodigy visual system. Developed and manufactured by CAE in Montreal, the simulator aims to deliver high-fidelity training with the latest technological enhancements. It allows Porter pilots to train closer to home, reducing logistical challenges while supporting safety and operational readiness.
Porter Airlines Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Kent Woodside emphasized the value of the collaboration, calling it a union of three major aviation players. He noted that CAE’s simulation expertise ensures Porter pilots receive top-tier instruction tailored for the E195-E2 aircraft, maintaining the highest safety and performance standards.
The simulator features the CAE Prodigy Image Generator, which utilizes Epic Games’ Unreal Engine to create a highly realistic training environment. This technology provides photorealistic graphics and dynamic movement modeling, resulting in an immersive and effective training experience that mirrors real-world flight scenarios.
CAE’s Division President of Commercial Aviation, Michel Azar-Hmouda, welcomed Porter Airlines to CAE’s Montreal training center and expressed enthusiasm about supporting their E2 operations. He highlighted the strategic importance of the joint venture with Embraer, aimed at advancing global aviation safety and training by delivering exceptional solutions to airlines operating the E195-E2.
The Montreal installation is part of a global ECTS training network, which also includes E195-E2 simulators in Singapore and Madrid. Beyond the E2 platform, ECTS provides full-flight simulator training for the Embraer Phenom series of business jets at CAE centers in Dallas, Las Vegas, São Paulo, Vienna, and Burgess Hill in the United Kingdom. Training on the Phenom aircraft is expected to begin this summer in Vienna.
