Princess Cruises Announces Delay in Sun Princess Maiden Voyage, Offers Compensation to Guests
Princess Cruises has officially taken delivery of the much-anticipated Sun Princess, the latest addition to its fleet. However, in a turn of events, the cruise line has announced the cancellation of the ship’s maiden voyage originally scheduled for February 18. The decision was made to allow additional time for necessary technical work to ensure the vessel meets Princess Cruises’ high standards for guest experience. This follows a similar cancellation of its initially planned inaugural voyage from Barcelona on February 8.
Guests affected by the cancellation of the February 18 voyage will be provided with a full refund for their cruise fare and any pre-purchased onboard services. In a gesture of goodwill, Princess Cruises is also offering these guests a 50 percent future cruise credit, which can be applied to bookings made by November 30, 2024. The cruise line has committed to protecting travel agent commissions for the sailing, acknowledging the important role of travel partners.
For those who had already arrived in preparation for their cruise, Princess Cruises is extending financial reimbursement for select travel expenses. Additionally, guests who have not yet commenced their travel will receive support for changing their flights, minimizing the inconvenience caused by the voyage’s cancellation.
The new maiden voyage for the Sun Princess is now set for February 28, departing from Rome, Italy. Constructed by Fincantieri, the Sun Princess is heralded as the largest ship ever built in Italy, boasting a gross tonnage of 175,500 and a capacity to accommodate up to 4,300 guests.
