Qantas has announced the upcoming operation of a third non-stop repatriation flight from Cyprus to Sydney, aimed at bringing Australians home from Lebanon amid ongoing concerns in the region. Flight ASY1280 is scheduled to depart Larnaca International Airport (LCA) on the evening of October 11, 2024, carrying up to 220 passengers on the airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The flight is expected to arrive at Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) on the evening of October 13, 2024. Following the flight’s arrival in Australia, Qantas will provide complimentary transfers for passengers to the nearest domestic airport serviced by the airline.

In a commitment to assist Australians abroad, Qantas has stated that this additional flight will be operated free of charge for the Australian government, meaning that travelers on board will not incur any costs. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is facilitating the registration process for Australians wishing to return home.

Qantas’ second repatriation flight, ASY1270, is also on the schedule, set to depart Larnaca on the evening of October 9, 2024, and is expected to arrive back in Australia late on October 10, 2024. The airline recently marked the arrival of its first repatriation flight, ASY1258, which successfully landed in Sydney after transporting citizens from Larnaca.

As these flights are chartered by the Australian government, they are designated with a Royal Australian Air Force flight number beginning with the code ASY. The Australian Embassy in Lebanon is actively encouraging Australians in the country to secure their spots on these critical rescue flights, as availability may not last indefinitely.

With the situation in Lebanon evolving, Qantas continues to play a vital role in ensuring the safe return of Australians during this challenging time.
