Qatar Airways has resumed flights to Abha International Airport (AHB), marking its 11th destination in Saudi Arabia. The first flight, an Airbus A320-200, departed from Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha on January 2, 2025, landing in Abha after a short flight. The airline will now operate two weekly flights between Doha and Abha, scheduled every Thursday and Saturday.

With the resumption of this route, Qatar Airways now serves a total of 11 cities in Saudi Arabia, including Abha, Alula, Dammam, Jeddah, Medina, NEOM, Qassim, Riyadh, Tabuk, Taif, and Yanbu. This expansion further strengthens the airline’s position in the region, with over 140 weekly flights connecting more than 36,000 passengers between Saudi Arabia and Doha.

Qatar Airways’ Group CEO, Mohammed Al-Meer, expressed his enthusiasm about the new route, saying, “We are delighted to resume flights to Abha, our 11th gateway in Saudi Arabia. This highlights our commitment to enhancing connectivity, supporting tourism, and strengthening economic and cultural ties between our two nations.”

Ali Masrahi, CEO of Cluster 2 Airports Company, emphasized the significance of the new route for Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030, which aims to enhance connectivity and promote tourism. He added that this initiative underscores a commitment to expanding air networks and fostering international cooperation to achieve the ambitious growth goals set for Saudi Arabia’s aviation and tourism sectors.

Since its inaugural flight to Jeddah on January 29, 1997, Qatar Airways has consistently expanded its presence in Saudi Arabia. The resumption of flights to Abha allows passengers from the Aseer region to connect seamlessly to Qatar Airways’ global network, offering access to over 170 destinations worldwide through Hamad International Airport, which was named the World’s Best Airport by Skytrax in 2024.

This new route further underscores Qatar Airways’ dedication to providing business and leisure travelers with exceptional service and an expanded network of destinations in line with the airline’s growth strategy in the region.
