Radisson, Marriott Expand Throughout Africa

Radisson Hotel Group and Marriott International are continuing to expand their presence throughout the African continent – with Radisson adding seven properties and Marriott five through Protea Hotels by Marriott.

“With the continent remaining a focus market for us, we are committed to further contribute to the African hospitality industry, providing more possibilities to our guests and employment opportunities to the local communities,” said Elie Younes, executive vice president and global chief development officer of Radisson Hotel Group.

Radisson’s expansion includes the first Radisson Collection properties in Egypt and Nigeria: the 294-room Marsa Alam Port Phoenice, which is scheduled to open is in 2025, and the 104-room Radisson Collection Hotel & Conference Center, whose debut date has yet to be announced.

Other new properties include the 62-room Radisson RED Lagos VI, Nigeria (2025); the 200-room Radisson Hotel Nairobi Airport (mid-2027); the 148-room La Baie d’Alger in Algiers (mid-2026); the 462-room Radisson Blu Beach Resort & Spa, Banjul in Gambia (early 2025), and the 104-room Radisson Blu Hotel Abuja in Nigeria (early 2025).

Meanwhile, Marriott International’s Africa collection currently includes 140 properties, with Protea Hotels by Marriott accounting for upward of 40 of the company’s portfolio.

“Protea Hotels by Marriott has a long-established legacy in Africa, and we are excited to further strengthen the brand’s footprint in the continent with these five signings,” said Karim Cheltout, regional vice president-development, Africa & All-Inclusive, EMEA at Marriott International.

Scheduled property openings include the 155-room Protea Hotel by Marriott Serowe, Botswana, (2026); the 127-room Protea by Marriott Bahir Dar, Ethiopia ( 2025); the 26-room Protea Hotel by Marriott Zanzibar Stone Town, Tanzania (end of 2023); the Protea Hotel by Marriott Abuja Jahi, Nigeria (2027); and the 108-room Protea Hotel by Marriott Delta, Nigeria (2024).
