Reborn athletic club brings new bounce to L.A. district

An in-suite swimming pool larger than the one on the rooftop and a high-ceilinged suite that used to be a gym are among the distinct features of the Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel, a conversion of a near-century-old private club. Santa Monica-based Proper Hospitality hopes its “unique take” on posh urban hotels will help revive Los Angeles’ South Broadway neighborhood.
