Red Sea International Airport Eyes Global Growth

Opened in September 2023, The Red Sea International Airport (RSI) serves Saudi Arabia’s luxury Red Sea destination on the kingdom’s west coast. Located within a three-hour flight of 250 million people, RSI aims to handle 1 million guests annually by 2030, offering eco-conscious travelers immersive experiences with minimal environmental impact.
Since launch, domestic demand has grown steadily, driven by increased flights to Riyadh. In April 2024, RSI welcomed its first international service from Dubai International Airport, marking a major milestone in expanding global connectivity.
Speaking at Routes Europe 2025, RSI chief commercial officer Michael White outlined plans to target key European markets, with Germany, the UK, and Italy identified as priority opportunities. The goal is to increase international arrivals and extend the average length of stay across the destination’s expanding portfolio of hotels and resorts.
White noted productive meetings with airline network planners during the event in Seville, adding that these discussions could pave the way for new partnerships. RSI also participated in Routes Asia earlier this year to engage Indian carriers and highlight the Red Sea region’s potential.
As a Routes 360 member, RSI actively promotes its growth strategy, development updates, and unserved route opportunities. With its strategic location, rising domestic demand, and targeted international expansion, the airport is positioning itself as a gateway for sustainable luxury tourism in Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing travel sector.
