Regent Unveils Keel Laying for Seven Seas Prestige
Regent Seven Seas Cruises has reached a major milestone with the keel laying ceremony for its latest ultra-luxury vessel, Seven Seas Prestige, marking the beginning of construction for the cruise line’s first new ship class in a decade. The ceremony, held at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy, was a celebration of innovation, craftsmanship, and the longstanding partnership between Regent and Fincantieri. This new vessel is poised to revolutionize ultra-luxury cruising, setting new standards for service, design, and passenger experience.
During the ceremony, key executives from both Regent and Fincantieri were in attendance. Among those present were Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and top figures from Fincantieri including Daniele Fanara, Senior Vice President of New Building and After Sales, Marco Lunardi, Senior Vice President of Marghera Shipyard, and Giuseppe Cusenza, Vice President and Project Manager at Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division. Also joining the event were notable industry leaders such as Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., and Patrik Dahlgren, Executive Vice President of the same company. Their presence underscored the significance of the new vessel to the broader luxury cruise market.
Jason Montague highlighted the importance of the milestone, stating that Seven Seas Prestige represents a continued legacy of elevating the standard of ultra-luxury travel. He emphasized that the shared values of expertise, passion, and dedication to perfection between Regent and Fincantieri have made it possible to bring this ambitious project to life. Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division, also praised the event, remarking that the keel laying not only marks a pivotal moment for Regent and Fincantieri but for the entire ultra-luxury cruise industry. He pointed out that the new ship builds on the technical excellence established through the successful construction of previous Explorer-Class vessels, bringing Regent’s visionary approach to the next level.
In keeping with maritime tradition, three symbolic coins were welded into the keel. These coins carry special meaning: a specially minted Seven Seas Prestige coin featuring an antique gold finish and the ship’s design and keel laying date; a Venetian coin from 1688, honoring Venice’s shipbuilding heritage and the long relationship between Regent and Fincantieri; and a Christopher Columbus U.S. silver dollar from 1992, commemorating the cruise line’s founding year and celebrating the spirit of exploration.
Scheduled for delivery in 2026, Seven Seas Prestige will weigh 77,000 tons and accommodate 850 guests, offering one of the highest passenger-to-space ratios in the industry. The vessel will feature elegantly designed suites, exquisite restaurants, vibrant bars, lounges, and expansive public spaces. In addition, the ship will introduce new accommodation categories, including a reimagined Regent Suite, and innovative dining experiences that will further elevate Regent’s signature luxury offering. Guests aboard Seven Seas Prestige can expect a range of inclusive amenities, from unlimited shore excursions and gourmet dining to premium wines, Starlink Wi-Fi, complimentary valet laundry service, pre-paid gratuities, and a one-night pre-cruise hotel stay for guests in Concierge-level suites and above. This milestone heralds a new age of excellence for Regent Seven Seas Cruises as it continues to redefine the ultimate luxury experience at sea.
