Posh hotel stays are going for bargain rates in Southeast Asia as the region courts Western travelers to compensate for pandemic-crimped traffic from its mainstay of China. While inflation rules back home, “We’re paying less for the best luxury hotels in the world than for a Red Roof Inn in the US,” says a Chicagoan who paid $280 for 11 days on the Thai island of Koh Samui.
