Riga Airport Targets New European and Long-Haul Routes

RIX Riga International Airport continues its upward trajectory, handling over 7.1 million passengers in 2024—a 7% increase over the previous year. Momentum remains strong in 2025, with more than 3.3 million passengers served through June.

Offering direct connections to nearly 100 destinations in summer and over 80 in winter, RIX remains a key air travel hub in the Baltic region. The airport is served by 11 airline partners, led by Latvia’s national carrier airBaltic, which accounted for more than half of total passenger traffic in 2024.

airBaltic is expanding its network with new service to Faro, Portugal starting in September 2025. The airline will also increase frequencies to Amsterdam (3X-daily) and Dubai (daily service in winter), and boost flights to Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada to 3X-weekly for each.

The winter schedule includes the return of twice-weekly flights between Riga and Dublin. Meanwhile, flydubai will become the first UAE airline to operate direct flights to RIX, launching 3X-weekly service from Dubai International (DXB) in December 2025.

Norwegian began operating from RIX to London Gatwick in March 2025 with up to 4X-weekly service, and has launched seasonal flights to Split and Burgas.

To support future growth, Riga Airport is moving ahead with a major terminal expansion, backed by €75 million ($85 million) in financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The project includes a new terminal, baggage facility, access roads, and parking infrastructure.

On its Routes 360 profile, RIX highlights new route opportunities to underserved and unserved markets across Europe, the Caucasus, and North America.
