Rimini, Italy, has been selected as the host destination for Routes Europe 2026, announced today at Routes World 2024 in Bahrain. The event will take place from May 18-20, 2026, bringing together key stakeholders from airlines, airports, and destinations, further establishing Rimini’s position as a significant player in the aviation and tourism sectors. The event is organized by The Emilia-Romagna Region, The Municipality of Rimini, and Rimini and San Marino International Airport.

Situated in the Emilia-Romagna Region, Rimini is witnessing substantial growth as a tourist destination, driven by major investments in cultural attractions and infrastructure. The city’s unique blend of beautiful beaches and historic villages makes it a desirable spot for visitors.

Rimini and San Marino International Airport ‘Federico Fellini’ is vital to the region’s tourism development, partnering with 11 airlines serving 16 destinations. The airport is currently modernizing as part of AIRiminum Group’s ambitious masterplan, aimed at enhancing its infrastructure for safer and more accessible experiences for airlines and passengers alike.

Hosting Routes Europe 2026 will allow Rimini to showcase its urban transformation and commitment to sustainability to leading airlines. The event is expected to attract VPs and Heads of Network Planning from over 90 of Europe’s top carriers.

Steven Small, Director of Routes, remarked, “After a competitive application process, we are delighted to announce that we will unite the European route development community in Rimini in 2026 for the 19th edition of Routes Europe.” He also noted that previous host airports have seen network growth of about 6.9% compared to similar airports within three years of hosting.

Andrea Corsini, Regional Councillor for Mobility and Transport, highlighted the opportunity for Emilia-Romagna’s network of airports—Rimini, Bologna, Forlì, and Parma—to strengthen its positioning as a leading global tourist destination. He emphasized that Routes Europe will enable the region to develop integrated airport policies, stimulate investments, and promote sustainability and innovation across its key tourist attractions.

Mayor Jamil Sadegholvaad expressed enthusiasm for hosting the event, stating, “Rimini has become a European tourist capital that blends soul and modernity, aiming to elevate its status further, particularly through airport development and global connections.”

Leonardo Corbucci, CEO of AIRiminum 2014 S.p.A., stressed the strategic goals of the airport: “We are very proud to host Routes Europe in 2026. Our objective to increase direct air connections is a top priority for Rimini Airport and the city’s future.” He added that Rimini Airport serves as a gateway to Europe, reinforcing its role as a cutting-edge city on the international stage.

With Routes Europe 2026, Rimini is poised to enhance its visibility and connectivity, making significant strides in the aviation and tourism sectors.
