RIU Jamaica Resorts to Fully Reopen by End of Year

RIU Hotels & Resorts is preparing to reopen all seven of its Jamaica properties by the end of the year following Hurricane Melissa. The company confirmed that Riu Ocho Rios, which sustained only minor damage, has remained open throughout and has already restored all services.
Riu Montego Bay welcomed guests back on November 23, while Riu Palace Jamaica reopened on November 24. Riu Reggae, Riu Negril, Riu Palace Tropical Bay and Riu Palace Aquarelle are scheduled to reopen between November 30 and December 15, 2025.
RIU emphasized that its first priority has been supporting its employees under its Proudly Committed sustainability and social responsibility strategy. The company has mobilized a $1 million relief fund, with 80 percent allocated directly to staff members affected by the hurricane.
The remaining 20 percent will support local communities. In partnership with the Jamaica Basic School Foundation, RIU has contributed $200,000 to provide essential-needs packages to isolated areas. The company is also working with World Central Kitchen to prepare and distribute more than 7,000 meals per day from Negril and Montego Bay.
“The project started on November 6 with 1,000 daily servings, and today it is almost 8,000,” RIU noted, highlighting the scale of its community relief efforts as Jamaica continues to recover.
