Riyadh Air Marks Milestone First Anniversary with Ambitious Vision and Global Partnerships

Riyadh Air is commemorating its first year since its launch on March 12, 2023, with significant achievements and strategic partnerships that underline its ambitious plans for the future. Poised to serve 100 countries by 2030, Riyadh Air has been at the forefront of industry conversations, establishing major agreements both within Saudi Arabia and internationally. These efforts are in line with the airline’s goal to become the world’s most forward-thinking carrier, integrating top sustainability practices, and revolutionizing air travel with unparalleled reliability, comfort, and hospitality.

As a driving force behind Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy and National Tourism Strategy, Riyadh Air is contributing substantially to the country’s economic diversification and job creation initiatives, aligning with Vision 2030. The airline’s operations are projected to contribute USD 20 billion to KSA’s non-oil GDP growth and create over 200,000 jobs worldwide.

Reflecting on a groundbreaking first year, CEO Tony Douglas stated, “2023 was a monumental year for Riyadh Air…we’re only just getting started.” Douglas expressed anticipation for the airline’s continued progress towards its first flight in 2025, aiming to set a new standard in the aviation sector.

Key milestones for Riyadh Air in its inaugural year include:

  • Inauguration and Major Aircraft Order: Following its launch by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Riyadh Air placed a significant order for Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and 90 GEnx engines, showcasing its commitment to becoming a leading sustainable carrier. The airline also received its unique ‘RX’ code, marking its entry into the global aviation landscape.
  • Dual-Livery Unveilings in Paris and Dubai: Riyadh Air revealed its vibrant lavender-inspired livery, first seen in a ceremonial flight over Riyadh, followed by an unveiling at the 54th Paris Airshow. The airline also showcased its second dual-livery design at the Dubai Airshow, celebrating Saudi Arabia’s hospitality and visionary outlook.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Major agreements were signed with Saudia and Turkish Airlines, marking Riyadh Air’s collaborative efforts within and beyond the KSA aviation ecosystem. A unique partnership with Lucid Motors was also announced, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable transportation.
  • Technology and Aviation Partnerships: Riyadh Air established partnerships with leading companies like Lufthansa Systems, IBM Consulting, and Microsoft, among others, to drive digital innovation and prepare for its 2025 launch. A groundbreaking agreement with Adobe and IBM capped off the airline’s first year.
  • Sports Sponsorship: The airline entered a multi-year partnership with Atlético de Madrid, becoming the main and official airline partner, highlighting its engagement in global sports and branding initiatives.
