Routes Americas 2025: Celebrating Connectivity

The Routes Americas 2025 Awards honor excellence in airport and destination marketing and spotlight the collaborative efforts driving global air connectivity. This year’s event features 15 airports, five destinations, and five airlines competing across six categories. The awards include the Destination Award, which recognizes how destinations support airline partners, and the Airline Award, which celebrates collaborative efforts that lead to profitable and successful routes. In addition, three airport awards are presented based on passenger volumes—Under 5 Million, 5–20 Million, and Over 20 Million—with an Overall Winner selected from among the category winners.
A panel of airline judges evaluated the Airport and Destination categories, while an editorial panel scored the Airline category. The winners will be announced on February 11 at Routes Americas 2025, set to take place in Nassau & Paradise Island, Bahamas, a region that has made significant strides in enhancing air connectivity.
In the Destination category, the Aruba Tourism Authority has played a pivotal role in expanding the island’s global connectivity. Through strategic investments exceeding $3 million in airline marketing, Aruba secured new partnerships and launched direct flights from São Paulo (Gol Airlines) and Lima (LATAM Airlines Group). Expanded services from Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali via carriers like Wingo and Avianca have also elevated Aruba’s status as a premier travel destination.
The Curaçao Tourist Board is another standout finalist. Curaçao welcomed over 700,000 stayover visitors in 2024—a 20% increase over 2023 and a 51% recovery compared to pre-pandemic figures. The Tourist Board’s efforts led to new airline partnerships, including Corendon’s 6X-weekly flights from Amsterdam, Azul’s capacity boost from Belo Horizonte with a new Fort Lauderdale route, Delta Air Lines’ resumption of service from Atlanta, and expanded connections by Wingo from Medellín and Bogotá. An airlift committee has further supported these initiatives.
Destination Canada has been instrumental in restoring international air connectivity, driving a five-fold increase in inbound seats and generating $362 million in economic impact since launching its air service recovery program in 2021. In 2024, Canada welcomed 32 million inbound seats and 10.2 million visitors, with targeted campaigns supporting 27 key routes—26 of which remain operational in 2025.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) achieved record-breaking growth at Harry Reid International Airport in 2024, with 46 million origin-destination passengers. LVCVA’s strategic airline partnerships added 5.6 million seats since pre-pandemic levels, launching 33 new routes and expanding nonstop options to 27 international destinations. ProColombia also shined, with Colombia welcoming 6.6 million international travelers—a growth of 8.5% from 2023—and establishing 26 new routes, including services to Georgetown, Tulum, and Chicago, while welcoming new airlines such as Emirates, GOL, and World2Fly.
The Airline category features strong competitors including Avianca, Copa Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines. These carriers have expanded networks significantly, launching multiple new routes, upgrading fleets, and forging strategic partnerships that enhance global connectivity.
By recognizing these achievements, the Routes Americas 2025 Awards not only celebrate past successes but also pave the way for future growth in air service development. With a focus on sustainable, data-driven route development and enhanced international partnerships, the awards are set to stimulate further innovation and economic benefits across the region.
