Royal Air Maroc (RAM) announced its decision to further expand its widebody fleet on Nov. 13 at the Dubai Airshow with a repeat order of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, adding two 787-9 models to its growing fleet. This strategic move comes as the Moroccan flag carrier continues to leverage the 787 family’s renowned efficiency and flexibility to extend its long-haul network reach.

Abdelhamid Addou, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Air Maroc, expressed enthusiasm about the immediate impact of the new Dreamliners. “In light of the promising market conditions in 2023, these two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners will empower us to rapidly broaden our long-haul network,” he stated. Addou also revealed ongoing plans for a significant expansion, aiming to quadruple RAM’s fleet by 2037.

Over the past nine years, Royal Air Maroc has steadily augmented its widebody lineup, combining both 787-8 and 787-9 models. This latest order was previously unlisted on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website, adding an element of surprise to the airline’s fleet development strategy.

Brad McMullen, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, highlighted the synergy between the Dreamliner and RAM’s ambitions. “The 787 Dreamliner aligns seamlessly with Royal Air Maroc’s growth and modernization objectives. Our partnership, spanning over five decades, continues to flourish, and we are excited about future collaborations with the airline,” McMullen remarked.

As Morocco’s national carrier and a member of the oneworld Alliance, Royal Air Maroc serves 82 destinations across 41 countries. Its extensive network includes major cities in Europe, Africa, North America, and the Middle East. The airline’s Boeing fleet comprises both 737 and 787 models, underscoring its commitment to modern, efficient aircraft.

The 787 family, which began revenue service in 2011, has been instrumental in launching over 380 new nonstop global routes. Known for its 25% reduction in fuel usage and emissions compared to previous aircraft models, the 787 enhances passenger experience with features like larger windows, more comfortable cabin pressure and humidity levels, spacious overhead bins, ambient LED lighting, and turbulence-reducing technology.
