Royal Air Maroc Plans 200 Jet Fleet, In Talks With Embraer

Royal Air Maroc is in advanced talks with Embraer for a potential order of E2 jets as part of its long-term strategy to grow its fleet from 50 to 200 aircraft by 2037. The move is part of the Moroccan flag carrier’s ambitious growth and modernization plan aimed at enhancing both international and domestic connectivity.
According to Brazil’s Folha de S. Paulo, the state-owned airline is negotiating with multiple aircraft manufacturers across three aircraft size categories. In June, Royal Air Maroc was reportedly close to finalizing a deal with Boeing for 737 MAX and 787 aircraft, and with Airbus for 20 A220s—marking its first-ever partnership with the European manufacturer if confirmed.
Fleet data from ch-aviation shows Royal Air Maroc currently operates 52 aircraft, including 737-800s, 787-8s, 787-9s, and E190s. It also wet-leases aircraft, including A320s, ATR72-600s, and others, to support its operations.
On July 11, the Moroccan government signed an agreement to boost its capital investment in Royal Air Maroc. This financial backing is expected to support the carrier’s expansion strategy and enhance its global competitiveness.
The airline’s roadmap includes launching new international routes and adding 46 domestic routes to strengthen internal connectivity. A key focus will be transforming Casablanca Mohammed V Airport into a major international hub, aiming to rank among Africa’s top three for passenger traffic and route network strength.
Royal Air Maroc’s fleet expansion aligns with its broader goal of becoming a leading player in African and global aviation.
