Royal Caribbean Bans Hiding Ducks in Central Park Areas

Royal Caribbean has banned the popular cruise duck-hiding activity in the Central Park neighborhood on its Oasis and Quantum Class ships. The new rule was shared by passengers on Cruise Critic message boards and appears to be aimed at protecting the live plants and flowers in these open-air garden spaces.
A cruise guest on Utopia of the Seas photographed a new sign stating, “Please Help Us Protect the Plants. This is a duck-free zone. Please don’t hide ducks in Central Park.” The sign has sparked a mix of reactions among cruisers. While Royal Caribbean has not officially commented, many passengers say the ban is long overdue due to damage caused by people searching through garden beds.
“Central Park plants and flowers have been getting tore up by the adults and the kids placing and hunting for ducks,” said one user. Others defended the tradition, calling out those who let children trample the landscaping. Still, many agreed with the decision, suggesting it helps preserve the ambiance and natural beauty of the space.
The cruise duck trend involves hiding small rubber ducks around ships for other guests to find. These ducks often include cards with details about the person who hid them and an invitation to share a photo on social media. While the activity is generally seen as harmless fun, cruise lines have rules prohibiting hiding ducks in certain areas like pools, hot tubs, and now, Central Park.
Passengers should check onboard guidelines to ensure their duck hunts remain respectful and safe.
