Royal Caribbean Ship Rescues 10 Off Mexico

Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas carried out a dramatic rescue on Sunday, September 28, when it picked up ten shipwrecked individuals off the coast of Quintana Roo, Mexico. According to reports, nine men and one woman were found stranded at sea before being brought safely aboard the cruise ship.
The rescued group was later transported to the Port of Mahahual, where they were placed under the care of Naval Health personnel and officials from Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM). Authorities confirmed that none of the shipwreck victims were Mexican nationals.
In a statement, Mexico’s Navy (Secretaría de Marina) confirmed its role in coordinating with the INM to provide medical evaluations and immigration procedures. “Naval personnel, in coordination with the Instituto Nacional de Migración, provided support and medical care to 10 foreign shipwrecked victims rescued by the cruise ship Enchantment of the Seas in the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Isla Mujeres,” the statement said. Officials added that all ten individuals were found to be in good health after examination.
Cruise ships such as Enchantment of the Seas are obligated under international maritime law to assist vessels or individuals in distress when possible. These rescues, though not routine in scale, are a recognized part of maritime safety responsibilities.
The Enchantment of the Seas, which regularly sails in the Caribbean, was able to complete its voyage after the transfer of the shipwrecked passengers, highlighting both the responsiveness of the crew and the coordination with Mexican naval authorities.
