Royal Caribbean has introduced a new furry crew member, Rover, a young golden retriever, aboard its newest and largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas. Rover, who has been charmingly appointed as the “chief dog officer” and “family dog” of the ship, is bringing a unique twist to the cruising experience.

Rover’s journey aboard the Icon of the Seas is shared through her official Instagram account, showcasing her life at sea. She belongs to Allison, an experienced crew member from Australia who has been with Royal Caribbean for over five years. Together, they ensure that Rover’s days are filled with fun, plenty of naps, and treats.

Despite being new to the ship, Rover has quickly adapted to her sea legs. She’s even visited the bridge to spend time with the ship’s captain, Henrik Loy. Rover’s role on the ship is significant—she’s there to spread joy and happiness among crew members and guests alike, while also enjoying the wonders of the Caribbean and exploring various ports.

Interestingly, Rover isn’t the only pet living on a cruise ship. Bug Naked, a hairless elf sphynx cat, resides with Kate McCue, the captain of Celebrity Cruises’ ship Celebrity Beyond. Both pets have garnered significant followings on Instagram, showcasing the appeal of pets in unconventional environments.

However, for those hoping to bring their own pets on a cruise, the options are limited. Most cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, typically only allow service animals onboard. Rover’s presence on the Icon of the Seas is a rare and special case, adding a heartwarming element to the cruise experience.

As the “chief dog officer,” Rover represents more than just a pet; she symbolizes the joy and companionship that animals bring, even in the most unexpected places like a cruise ship. Her adventures at sea are sure to delight both crew and guests, making the Icon of the Seas an even more memorable and unique experience.
