Royal Caribbean is marking the one-year anniversary of Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, which officially set sail on January 27, 2024, as the company’s inaugural Icon Class vessel. Featuring a unique “chief dog officer,” eight distinct neighborhoods, and a host of innovative amenities, Icon of the Seas has quickly become a standout in the cruise industry.

Over the past year, Icon of the Seas has welcomed an impressive 192,000 families and made 180 port calls, including 52 visits to the exclusive Perfect Day at CocoCay. The ship has been a hub of celebrations, with approximately 7,900 birthdays commemorated onboard. The entertainment onboard has been nothing short of spectacular, with aqua performers executing 28,736 high-flying dives across 449 shows. Culinary delights have also been abundant, as crew members have served 55,350 milkshakes at Desserted and 44,070 cocktails at the Lime and Coconut poolside bar. Additionally, travelers have indulged in 1,594,567 ice cream cones at Sprinkles, enhancing their cruise experience.

As Royal Caribbean celebrates this milestone, the company is already setting its sights on the future with the upcoming launch of Star of the Seas in Port Canaveral, Florida, scheduled for August. To commemorate the anniversary, Royal Caribbean is hosting a social media sweepstakes this week, offering travelers the chance to win a free cruise on either Star of the Seas or Icon of the Seas, along with other exciting prizes. Participation is simple: follow Royal Caribbean on social media, like the sweepstakes post, and tag a friend in the comments.

In parallel with its celebratory activities, Royal Caribbean Group reported its fourth-quarter 2024 earnings, showcasing robust financial performance. The company achieved fourth-quarter revenue of $3.76 billion, up from $3.33 billion in the same period the previous year. Looking ahead, Royal Caribbean projects full-year adjusted earnings per share of $14.35 to $14.65, reflecting a 23 percent growth. The airline’s leadership highlighted a record-breaking start to the wave season, with higher booking rates than in previous years.

Expanding its horizons, Royal Caribbean also announced the launch of a new river cruise offering under the Celebrity Cruises brand. Ten new river ships are on order, set to debut in 2027, further diversifying the company’s portfolio and catering to the growing demand for river-based travel experiences.

Jason Liberty, President and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Caribbean Group, expressed his optimism for the future, stating, “2024 was exceptional. 2025 is shaping up to be another great year. We are never satisfied with the status quo, and we are obsessed with delivering the best vacation experiences in the world and driving exceptional shareholder returns.”

As Royal Caribbean continues to innovate and expand, the success of Icon of the Seas serves as a testament to the company’s dedication to excellence in the cruise industry. With upcoming projects and strategic initiatives in place, Royal Caribbean is well-positioned to maintain its leadership and continue offering unparalleled vacation experiences to travelers worldwide.
