Royal Jordanian Launches Direct Amman-Washington Flights
Royal Jordanian Airlines is set to enhance connectivity between the Middle East and North America with the launch of its new direct flights between Amman and Washington DC. Scheduled to commence on March 23, 2025, this service marks a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion strategy, offering travelers a seamless and efficient travel option between the two capitals.
Starting in March 2025, Royal Jordanian will operate non-stop flights three times a week using its modern fleet of Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. These flights will connect Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) in Amman with Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), covering a distance of 5,965 miles (9,544 kilometers). The new route will be a year-round operation, significantly boosting the airline’s presence in the North American market.
Washington DC becomes the fifth North American destination for Royal Jordanian, joining Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Detroit (DTW), New York-JFK (JFK), and Montreal in Canada. This strategic addition is expected to cater to the growing demand for direct flights between Jordan and key cities in the United States, facilitating better business, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
“Our upcoming first flight between the two capitals, Washington and Amman, marks a significant milestone in Royal Jordanian’s global expansion strategy, making this the fourth US city we fly directly to,” said Samer Majali, CEO of Royal Jordanian Airlines. He emphasized that this new route is designed to stimulate tourism, trade, and investment opportunities, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to connecting people and markets across the globe.
The new service will operate twice weekly, with departures from Amman on Tuesdays and Sundays. Flight RJ282 will leave Amman at 11:25 AM local time and arrive in Washington at 5:45 PM, while the return flight RJ283 will depart Washington at 8:50 PM and land back in Amman the following afternoon at 3:25 PM. These convenient timings are tailored to meet the needs of both business and leisure travelers, ensuring a comfortable and efficient journey.
Marking Royal Jordanian as the sole airline offering non-stop services between Amman and Washington, this launch fills a gap left by United Airlines, which ceased its direct flights to Jordan from Washington in August 2024. The introduction of this route is expected to attract a wide range of passengers seeking direct and reliable travel options without the need for layovers.
Dina Kawar, the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the United States, expressed her enthusiasm about the new flight route. She stated, “This new link between the two capitals will allow travelers to experience Jordan’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant modern life. It is a seamless journey into a country that beautifully balances its ancient traditions with contemporary advancements.”
Royal Jordanian’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners are equipped with 270 seats in a two-class configuration, including 24 business class seats and 246 economy seats. These aircraft are known for their fuel efficiency, advanced technology, and passenger comfort, providing an exceptional flying experience. According to ch-aviation, the fleet has an average age of 9.5 years, ensuring reliability and modern amenities for all passengers.
The introduction of the Amman-Washington route aligns with Royal Jordanian’s five-year expansion strategy, aimed at increasing its global footprint and enhancing its service offerings. By establishing direct connections between key international destinations, Royal Jordanian is poised to meet the evolving needs of travelers and businesses alike.
This new flight service is expected to bolster economic ties between Jordan and the United States, facilitating smoother movement of goods, services, and people. It will also provide a vital link for the Jordanian diaspora in the United States, offering them greater convenience and connectivity to their homeland.
Royal Jordanian Airlines’ launch of direct flights between Amman and Washington DC represents a strategic advancement in the airline’s global operations. By providing enhanced connectivity, increased flight frequency, and superior passenger experience, Royal Jordanian is set to strengthen its position in the competitive aviation market, delivering significant benefits to travelers and the broader economy.
