Royal Jordanian Airlines is making a strategic comeback to the Indian market after a decade-long hiatus by launching two new direct services. This move underscores the carrier’s commitment to expanding its global footprint despite regional challenges.

The airline will commence flights from Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) to New Delhi and Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in its route expansion plans. The inaugural flight to Mumbai is scheduled for April 17, 2025, followed by the launch of services to New Delhi on September 17, 2025. Both routes will operate four times weekly using modern Airbus A320neo aircraft, known for their efficiency and passenger comfort.

Karim Makhlouf, Chief Commercial Officer of Royal Jordanian, emphasized the importance of these new routes: “Through these routes, we aim to showcase the unique experiences Jordan offers while positioning Royal Jordanian as a boutique airline that promotes Jordan as a premier destination. The new direct connection between Jordan and India will also increase the bilateral trade and economic links between both countries.” This initiative is part of Royal Jordanian’s broader “Explore Jordan” campaign, designed to position Jordan as a must-visit destination for Indian travelers.

The decision to re-enter the Indian market comes at a time when the region is witnessing a resurgence in travel demand. According to Sabre Market Intelligence, the Jordan-India market, which currently lacks nonstop service, saw approximately 88,000 two-way origin and destination (O&D) passengers in 2023. This figure is nearing the pre-pandemic level of nearly 100,000 passengers recorded in 2019. By introducing nonstop flights, Royal Jordanian aims to capture a significant share of this indirect traffic and stimulate further growth in the market.

In addition to its expansion into India, Royal Jordanian is set to launch a new route to the United States. Starting March 23, 2025, the airline will operate two weekly flights between Amman and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). This 5,949-mile (5,170-nm) route will be served by Boeing 787-8 aircraft, offering enhanced comfort and connectivity. The new service follows United Airlines’ decision to suspend its thrice-weekly flights on the same route in August 2024, presenting an opportunity for Royal Jordanian to fill the gap and cater to travelers seeking direct connections between Jordan and the U.S.

Royal Jordanian’s return to India is part of a larger strategy to boost tourism and capitalize on the growing demand from India’s outbound travel sector. The addition of direct flights not only facilitates easier access for Indian tourists to explore Jordan’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty but also strengthens economic ties between the two nations.

The launch of these new routes is expected to have a positive impact on both the airline and the destinations involved. For travelers, the introduction of nonstop flights means more convenient travel options, reduced travel time, and an enhanced overall experience. For Jordan, increased tourism from India can lead to economic benefits, job creation, and further development of the country’s tourism infrastructure.

Royal Jordanian’s fleet expansion and route development efforts demonstrate the airline’s resilience and adaptability in a competitive aviation landscape. By leveraging modern aircraft like the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 787-8, the carrier ensures it meets the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.

As Royal Jordanian Airlines continues to navigate its growth amidst regional turmoil, its strategic moves into the Indian and U.S. markets highlight its dedication to providing exceptional travel experiences and fostering international connections. Passengers can look forward to enjoying seamless and luxurious journeys as Royal Jordanian re-establishes its presence in key global markets.
