Russian Court to Hear airBaltic Debt Case in Late 2025

A Russian court is set to hear a long-standing financial claim against airBaltic in the fourth quarter of 2025. The Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA), acting as bankruptcy trustee for the defunct Investbank, is seeking EUR 203.1 million (USD 236.5 million) from the Latvian carrier, citing unpaid debts and accrued interest.

The Moscow Arbitration Court scheduled the hearing for December 4, 2025, nearly two years after the lawsuit was filed in November 2023. The case stems from loans issued more than a decade ago to airBaltic’s former shareholder, Baltijas Aviācijas Sistēmas (BAS).

According to court documents, BAS secured three separate loans from Investbank in 2011 totaling EUR 16.5 million (USD 19.2 million). The bank’s bankruptcy and subsequent claims by the DIA have since prolonged the legal battle, which has stretched over 13 years.

This latest court session marks another chapter in the ongoing dispute as Russian authorities continue efforts to recover the alleged debt from airBaltic, one of Europe’s most recognized regional airlines.
