Red Wings Airlines (WZ, Moscow Domodedovo) has signed a letter of intent for twenty-five more SuperJets from Irkut to add to the eight SSJ 100/95Bs it already operates.

Announced during the ongoing MAKS 2021 International Aviation and Space Salon in Moscow, the impending order consists of used and new-build aircraft to be sourced under a leasing contract whose financing has yet to be finalised. Deliveries will run from 2021 through 2022.

Red Wings Airlines is owned by Ilyushin Finance, itself a subsidiary of the Russian government’s UAC United Aircraft Corporation holding. Aside from its existing SSJ fleet, it also operates four A320-200s, eleven A321-200s, two B777-200(ER)s, and one Tu-204-100 from bases at Moscow Domodedovo, Ekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Chelyabinsk, and Zhukovsky.

“The SSJ100’s first year of operations has shown that it is perfect for regional transportation in Russia. Now our SuperJets fly from three base airports on about 40 routes, and we have serious plans for it: we intend, in 2021-2022, to open dozens of new destinations and two or three new bases at regional airports,” Evgeny Klyucharev, General Director of Red Wings, said in a statement.
