Ryanair Calls for Flexibility on Berlin Night Flight Ban
Ryanair has voiced support for Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner’s proposal to ease the night flight ban at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, calling for more flexibility in cases of unforeseen delays, such as weather disruptions. The airline’s statement followed Wegner’s comments at the ITB Berlin 2025 tourism trade fair, where he highlighted the negative impacts of long detours caused by minor delays, particularly when flights are rerouted just minutes before the curfew.
While Ryanair is not advocating for the complete removal of the night flight ban, it stressed the need for greater flexibility to avoid unnecessary diversions, such as rerouting flights to Hannover when the curfew is about to begin. The airline has called on Germany’s Transport Minister, Volker Wissing, to support Wegner’s proposal and instruct the Berlin-Brandenburg Aviation Authority (LuBB) to ease the current restrictions, which Ryanair considers too strict and disruptive.
The Berlin curfew, which prohibits flights from arriving or departing between 11:30 PM and 5:30 AM local time, aims to minimize noise disruptions for residents while still allowing some essential flights. However, Ryanair believes that the current rules cause unnecessary delays and diversions, impacting passengers and airline operations. The carrier’s plea for more flexibility seeks to strike a balance between maintaining the curfew and accommodating unforeseen circumstances.
