Ryanair Passenger Escorted Off Flight in Handcuffs by Armed Police for Drunken Rampage
Darren Gill, a 33-year-old individual, caused a disturbance during a Ryanair flight from Manchester Airport (MAN) to Santander Airport (SDR) in Spain. The flight, which was originally scheduled to depart at 13:00 local time, faced a seven-hour delay, providing Gill with an opportunity to indulge in alcohol at the airport bars.
As a result of excessive drinking, Gill boarded the aircraft intoxicated and proceeded to engage in abusive behavior towards his partner, who was seated at the back of the plane. Cabin crew members sought the assistance of police officers when Gill failed to cooperate and continued to disregard flight safety announcements and briefings.
Upon boarding the plane, the officers noted Gill’s evident intoxication – he exhibited slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. Despite the intervention, Gill confronted the police officers, and his behavior led to further confrontations.
Following the incident, Gill faced legal consequences and was brought to Manchester Magistrates Court, where he confessed to being drunk on an aircraft. As a result, he received a fine of £459 ($585), along with a £184 ($235) victim surcharge and £85 ($108) in costs.
The altercation took place on July 26, 2022. The Manchester Evening News also reported that Gill had a history of 67 previous offenses, including a public order matter back in 2004.
