Ryanair to open Agadir, Morocco base in Winter 2021/22
Ryanair (FR, Dublin Int’l) will open a third base in Morocco by stationing two B737-800s in Agadir, from where it plans to open 16 new routes to seven European countries in the winter of 2021/22, the airline announced.
The announcement was made at a media briefing by Ryanair chief executive Eddie Wilson and Moroccan National Tourist Office chief executive, Adel el Fakir, in Taghazout, near Agadir, recently.
Ryanair in a statement said the stationing of the two aircraft represents an investment of USD200 million in Agadir Airport and the creation of 60 direct jobs.
The Irish budget carrier will operate a total of 25 routes from Agadir, representing 55 departing flights weekly, including to Italy (Bologna, Rome Fiumicino, Naples Capodichino), Ireland (Dublin Int’l), Spain (Porto, Alicante, Seville, and Barcelona El Prat), and France (Paris Beauvais and Toulouse Blagnac). The airline currently already serves Agadir from Brussels Charleroi, Bordeaux, Düsseldorf Weeze, Frankfurt Hahn, and Marseilles, the ch-aviation schedules module reveals.
Wilson said the aim is to establish Agadir as a leading winter holiday destination for Europeans. He said Ryanair had served the airport since 2008. “As Morocco has the most effective vaccination campaign in Africa, we want to continue to support the economic recovery as well as the regional and international connectivity of Morocco and position Agadir as a leading winter destination, with superb hotels, restaurants, and golf courses in the new Taghazout Quarter,” he added.
Ryanair’s existing two Moroccan bases are in Fes and Marrakech.
