Sandals Resorts International (SRI) will close the Sandals Emerald Bay in the Bahamas on August 15 to begin a major redevelopment project. The resort will be reimagined as Beaches Exuma, set to debut in the fall of this year.

Adam Stewart, SRI’s executive chairman, highlighted the resort’s new focus on families. “Exuma was made for families, and with over 6,000 feet of shoreline, the new Beaches Exuma will offer a gateway to explore the unparalleled beauty of this region,” he said.

Originally opened in 2010 as a family-oriented resort, Sandals Emerald Bay provides an ideal foundation for the Beaches-branded experience. The renovated property will boast a variety of room options, including multi-bedroom villas and suites with connecting rooms.

The upgrade will also enhance the resort’s 12 restaurants and add a new Kids Camp, splash deck, and adventure activities designed for families.

Chester Cooper, Bahamas Minister of Tourism and parliamentary representative for Exuma, expressed support for the transition. “While we will miss Sandals Emerald Bay, Beaches Exuma will attract more visitors and create more jobs for Bahamians,” he noted.
