Sapphire Princess Returns With New Makoto Ocean & Crown Grill

Princess Cruises’ Sapphire Princess has returned to service after a two-week drydock in Portland, Oregon, emerging with new dining experiences and refreshed onboard features. The 2,670-guest ship now features two of the cruise line’s most celebrated specialty restaurants—Makoto Ocean and Crown Grill—which will officially open to guests on November 16.

Both restaurants will be available for $60 per person and are included as part of the Princess Premier package, offering guests a taste of elevated cuisine during their voyage.

Following its refurbishment, Sapphire Princess is sailing to Mexico before repositioning for a season of South America and Antarctica cruises. In 2026, the ship will spend spring and summer sailing through the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, before moving to Canada and New England in the fall. Then, in March 2027, Sapphire Princess will reunite with her sister ship, Diamond Princess, for Princess Cruises’ largest-ever Japan season, running through December 2027.

Makoto Ocean, which first debuted aboard Sun Princess and Star Princess, replaces the former Internet Café on Deck 7. Created by acclaimed chef Makoto Okuwa, the venue brings Edomae-style sushi to sea, offering a refined menu featuring truffle salmon, snow crab temaki, toro tartare, and more. The restaurant also features handcrafted cocktails such as the Genmai Negroni—a Japanese twist on the classic—and Kodai No Hana, made with yuzu juice and Doburoku, an ancient sake.

Meanwhile, the Crown Grill steakhouse takes over the former Savoy Dining Room on Deck 5, serving premium aged beef, chops, and fresh seafood in an elegant setting.

“With the addition of Makoto Ocean and Crown Grill, our guests aboard Sapphire Princess will enjoy two of our most popular dining experiences, elevating the culinary journey across her itineraries,” said Sami Kohen, vice president of food and beverage for Princess Cruises. “We’re especially proud to bring these enhancements as Sapphire Princess prepares for remarkable seasons ahead, including our historic dual-ship deployment in Japan in 2027.”

The upgrades mark the start of an exciting new chapter for Sapphire Princess, blending global itineraries with world-class dining for travelers seeking both adventure and indulgence at sea.
