Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) is set to enhance its 2024 summer schedule by introducing a new direct flight to Atlanta, marking it as the ninth North American destination in its network. Starting June 17th, SAS will offer daily nonstop services from Copenhagen to Atlanta, expanding its global connectivity.

This addition is part of SAS’ broader strategy to increase its presence in the US market. The airline will boost the frequency of its Copenhagen-New York (JFK) route to up to two daily flights. This expansion complements the existing daily flights from Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen to New York-Newark Airport. Additionally, the Copenhagen-Boston route will see an increase to daily flights, up from six times a week, along with a new, fourth weekly flight from Copenhagen to Toronto.

The choice of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which welcomed nearly 94 million passengers in 2022 and is recognized as the world’s busiest and most efficient airport, is strategic for SAS. The proximity of the airport to the Port of Savannah, America’s largest and fastest-growing container terminal, is expected to significantly boost cargo transportation on this route.

SAS passengers will benefit from enhanced travel options through a partnership with Delta Air Lines. This collaboration allows for seamless connections to numerous destinations across the Southern USA, Caribbean, and Latin America from Atlanta. “This expansion not only adds a new destination but also broadens our network, offering more choices and convenience to our passengers,” stated Anko van der Werff, SAS President & CEO.

SAS Scandinavian also signed a codeshare agreement with EL AL Israel Airlines in early June 2023 effective in February. Furthermore, SAS entered a codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways in October. Through codeshare agreements, passengers will experience improved connectivity, gaining access to an array of destinations. SAS currently has 18 codeshare agreements with different carriers globally.
