Saudi Arabia’s $800B Tourism Plan Targets Global Top 5 by 2030
Saudi Arabia is making a bold $800 billion investment to transform its tourism sector and become a top-five global destination by 2030. The Saudi Tourism Authority aims to attract 150 million annual visitors, positioning the kingdom as a hub for authentic and personalized travel experiences.
At The Phocuswright Conference, Hazim Al-Hazmi, president of Americas & Europe markets for the Saudi Tourism Authority, emphasized the kingdom’s commitment to redefining perceptions. “This ambition reflects our nation’s serious commitment to establishing Saudi Arabia as a global travel destination,” Al-Hazmi stated.
Key initiatives include expanding infrastructure, launching new airports and hotels, and focusing on the Red Sea as a prime destination. Four new resorts debuted this year, with 16 more set to open in 2024. The country’s rich heritage includes eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Al Ula, a 7,000-year-old site, and the snowy northern region, showcasing its diverse offerings.
Al-Hazmi highlighted the importance of storytelling and personalization, stating, “In the age of hyper-personalization, travelers seek unique stories and memories.” He also underscored the role of technology in simplifying logistics while preserving human interactions. “Automate the expected and humanize the unexpected,” he added.
The kingdom’s tourism efforts are yielding results. Visitor numbers grew from 950,000 in 2022 to 2.4 million in 2023, with a projected 3 million visitors by year-end. Partnerships with influencers and global brands continue to amplify Saudi Arabia’s story as it builds connections and strengthens its global appeal.
