Saudia Group, in collaboration with Riyadh Season 2024, has transformed Riyadh city center into a dynamic event space named “BLVD Runway.” This new attraction incorporates three decommissioned Saudia Boeing 777 aircraft, offering a unique blend of entertainment, shopping, dining, and interactive experiences. The space officially opened on December 18, 2024, with a ceremony attended by Turki Alalsheikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, and Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group.

The BLVD Runway, now a public venue, spans 140,000 square meters and is designed to resemble an airport runway, enhancing the thematic experience of visitors. It includes 13 retail stores, 13 interactive experiences, and five restaurants, providing ample activities for guests of all ages. This innovative use of space underscores Saudia’s commitment to repurposing its assets creatively while contributing to the cultural and social vibrancy of Riyadh.

At the inauguration, Al-Omar received a symbolic key to the aircraft from Alalsheikh, symbolizing the opening of the zone which will remain operational for two months. “We are proud to be part of this historic moment, marking our participation in Riyadh Season,” said Al-Omar. He noted the event’s growth under Alalsheikh’s supervision and highlighted the partnership’s significance, with Saudia serving as a platinum and official airline partner for Riyadh Season 2024.

The conversion of the Boeing 777s into a venue is a feat of engineering and logistics, managed by Saudia Technic technicians who detailed the complex process of dismantling, transporting, and reassembling the aircraft from Jeddah to Riyadh. This transformation was completed in what Saudia describes as “record time,” despite the logistical challenges involved.

The aircraft, two of which were retired in 2016 and one in 2018, have a rich history with the airline. During the event, Saudia flight attendants shared insights into the aircraft’s service history, including the number of flights, flight hours, and destinations covered. They also recounted memorable journeys, bringing a personal touch to the technical achievements.

This zone not only enhances Riyadh’s entertainment landscape but also pays homage to the operational history of Saudia’s fleet, offering visitors a chance to engage with aviation in an intimately accessible setting. The BLVD Runway is expected to attract significant foot traffic, further boosting Riyadh’s status as a burgeoning hub for innovative tourism and entertainment solutions.
