Amtrak's Capitol Limited

Amtrak is ushering in autumn travel season with a fresh fare sale, offering 25 percent off of the passenger rail provider’s already rock-bottom rates. But, the flash sale is only running for a very limited time, so you’ll need to book those fall train trips fast.

The discount is being offered now through October 4, 2022, on most of Amtrak’s routes around the nation, for Coach or Acela Business Class tickets. To qualify for the special offer, travel must take place between October 1 and December 15, 2022, the company confirmed to Travel + Leisure.

East Coast travelers can flit from New York to Philadelphia, for instance, with discounted, one-way ticket prices as low as $14.25; or from Washington D.C. to NYC for as little as $23.25; or, perhaps, from Boston to the Big Apple for as little as $23.25.

Outside of the busy Northeast Corridor, long-distance itineraries around the nation are also on sale through October 4, including routes such as those between New York City and Chicago, which are going for as little as $67.50; or from Seattle and Los Angeles for as low as $75.75; or from Washington D.C. to Atlanta for as little as $79.50.

However, Amtrak’s autumn sale isn’t available on all routes. Certain services, including the Auto Train, California Zephyr, Capitol Corridor, Heartland Flyer, the newly restored Ethan Allen Express route and at least a dozen more (listed here) are expressly excluded from the flash sale.

The full terms and conditions of the offer also specify a few applicable blackout dates—November 22 and 23, and November 26 and 27—which is to be expected, given the pre- and post-Thanksgiving holiday travel rush.

To take advantage of the limited-time reduced pricing, select your travel itinerary directly from Amtrak’s dedicated webpage or apply offer code “S25L” at checkout.

It’s also worth noting that customers who book travel through this discounted offer aren’t eligible to upgrade their tickets to sleeper cabins, First Class or non-Acela Business Class.

Back in July, Amtrak announced that it was extending change fee waivers for all customers who book their trips by October 31, 2022, regardless of when the travel is actually scheduled to occur. At the time, the company wrote in a statement, “For the change fee waiver, any reservation made by October 31, 2022, will qualify even if your travel date is in 2023,” T+L reported.

However, specifically on Saver Fare reservations, some cancellation fees do still apply. Travelers who completely cancel their Saver Fare tickets after 24 hours from the time of purchase are only eligible to receive 75 percent of their paid amount in the form of a non-refundable eVoucher.
