Scoot Expands Fleet, Adds New Destinations in 2025

Singapore-based low-cost carrier Scoot is set to boost its growth in 2025 by adding approximately a dozen extra aircraft to its fleet, along with launching four to six new destinations. The carrier, operating from Singapore Changi Airport, is currently inducting Embraer E190-E2s as part of its ongoing fleet modernization efforts, and CEO Leslie Thng confirmed the expansion plan during a recent press briefing.
In addition to the four E2s from a 2023 order that are still pending delivery, Scoot plans to supplement its fleet with seven to nine Airbus A320s and three Boeing 787s. These new aircraft will further complement Scoot’s existing fleet mix, which already includes fourteen A320-200s, six A320-200Ns, nine A321-200NX, eleven Boeing 787-8s, and ten Boeing 787-9s. The carrier’s comprehensive aircraft order book currently shows commitments for twelve A320-200Ns, six A321-200NX, two Boeing 787-8s, one Boeing 787-9, and the four E190-E2s.
Thng explained that the additional aircraft will be used to increase frequencies on existing routes and to launch new flights to markets that the airline is currently exploring. “We are still working on the details,” he said, emphasizing that beyond projected demand, operational feasibility is a crucial factor in determining new routes. With the extra capacity, Scoot aims to better match supply with growing passenger demand while enhancing the economics of its network.
The carrier’s recent experience with the Embraer E190-E2 services has proven successful, as the five E2s currently operating for Scoot have allowed the airline to “right-size” supply on certain routes. Passenger load factors on these aircraft are reportedly in the high 80s, which highlights the positive impact of this strategic fleet addition on route profitability and overall efficiency.
In a separate development, Scoot has also made adjustments to its route network based on commercial considerations and aircraft utilization. The airline recently announced that flights to Berlin Brandenburg will end on March 28, 2025, with plans to replace them with new service to Vienna, commencing on June 3, 2025. CEO Thng noted that while Berlin initially appeared promising based on pre-COVID projections, evolving market conditions in the post-pandemic era have shifted focus to destinations like Vienna that better align with the airline’s current strategy.
The planned expansion is part of Scoot’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity across Asia and beyond. By increasing the number of new aircraft in its fleet and launching additional routes, the carrier is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the growing low-cost travel market. The new fleet additions will allow Scoot to offer higher frequency services on existing routes and open up opportunities to tap into previously underserved markets.
Overall, the strategic fleet expansion and network enhancements demonstrate Scoot’s commitment to maintaining competitive pricing and operational efficiency while meeting the evolving demands of travelers.
