Scoot Eyes More Flights from Subang Airport in Malaysia

Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is looking to expand its operations at Kuala Lumpur Subang Airport as demand for its Singapore–Subang route continues to surge. Chief executive Leslie Thng told Malaysia’s New Straits Times that the carrier would like to add more flights if permitted by the Malaysian government. He noted that passenger response to the existing service has been “fantastic” and that Scoot is eager to increase frequencies despite infrastructure constraints at the airport.

Currently, Scoot operates daily A320 flights between Singapore Changi and Subang, complementing its services to ten other Malaysian destinations including Kuala Lumpur International, Penang, and Langkawi. Thng highlighted that the airline’s dual presence at both airports serving the Kuala Lumpur region gives travelers greater flexibility, with Subang offering quicker access to the central business district for some passengers.

The push for more flights aligns with Scoot’s wider growth strategy across Asia. The airline recently unveiled new routes to Chiang Rai, Okinawa Naha, and Tokyo Haneda, alongside increased frequencies to destinations such as Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Ipoh, Chiang Mai, Taipei Taoyuan, and Sapporo Chitose starting from December 2025.

However, Malaysia’s transport minister has emphasized that Subang’s infrastructure limits—such as aircraft bays, operating hour caps, and jet frequency restrictions—pose operational challenges. The government’s MYR3.7 billion (USD880 million) Subang Airport Regeneration Plan aims to transform the facility into an aviation hub, boosting annual capacity to eight million passengers by 2030 and potentially opening the door for carriers like Scoot to grow further at the airport.
