Seabourn Venture Reaches Record 70° South in Antarctica

Seabourn has set new company and fleet records during its 12-day “Antarctica Exploration” voyage aboard Seabourn Venture, reaching the most southerly point in the brand’s history.
During the sailing, which is scheduled to conclude on February 9, guests traveled as far as 70° South latitude—the furthest south ever reached by a Seabourn ship and the most southerly point in the history of parent company Carnival Corporation. The milestone marks a significant achievement for both the ultra-luxury cruise line and the broader Carnival fleet operating in polar regions.
In addition to reaching 70° South, Seabourn Venture completed the company’s first-ever exploration of George VI Sound. The remote waterway lies beyond the more frequently visited areas of the Antarctic Peninsula, offering guests access to a rarely navigated region characterized by dramatic ice formations and pristine wilderness.
The expedition also included a rare landing directly onto Antarctic sea ice at approximately 69.5° South. Guests disembarked for a Champagne toast at what became the most southerly point any Seabourn passenger has ever stood. Such landings are highly dependent on ice and weather conditions, making the achievement particularly notable.
Further enhancing the historic voyage, Seabourn Venture brought guests ashore at Base E on Stonington Island. The former British research station, established during the mid-20th century, provides a tangible connection to early Antarctic exploration and scientific discovery. Visits to historic sites such as Base E are carefully managed under Antarctic conservation guidelines to preserve the fragile environment.
Seabourn Venture is purpose-built for expedition cruising, featuring advanced navigation systems, strengthened hull capabilities and a team of expert expedition leaders. The ship is designed to access remote polar regions while maintaining the line’s signature ultra-luxury onboard experience.
By combining record-setting navigation with immersive shore landings and historical exploration, Seabourn’s latest Antarctica voyage underscores the growing demand for high-end expedition travel in one of the world’s most remote and challenging destinations.
