Seville Shines as Routes Europe 2025 Host
The 18th edition of Routes Europe has arrived in Seville, marking an exciting milestone for the region and the European air connectivity community. In this prestigious event, vice presidents and heads of network planning from over 120 of the region’s leading airlines have converged in the capital of Andalusia to explore opportunities for growth and collaboration. Over the course of three days, delegates will engage in more than 4,000 meetings with key stakeholders across the route development community, all aimed at driving further expansion of air networks in a rapidly evolving industry.
The event brings together senior representatives from renowned carriers such as British Airways, easyJet, Eurowings, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Transavia Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Volotea, Vueling, Wizz Air, and Jet2.com. The comprehensive attendee list underscores the importance of the conference as a hub for strategic decision-making and future planning. In addition to the airline leaders, more than 20 association and airline executives, government ministers, and expert suppliers have been invited to participate in the conference program, ensuring that diverse perspectives and expertise are shared. Speakers include the CEO of Vueling Airlines, Carolina Martinoli, who will discuss the carrier’s network expansion and its adaptation to changing market demands, and Michael Stanton-Geddes from ACI Europe, who will explore emerging industry opportunities.
The event also features insightful sessions with Carlos Muñoz, founder and CEO of Volotea, as he delves into route development strategies and the complexities of navigating today’s air travel landscape. Ourania Georgoutsakou, Managing Director of Airlines for Europe, will offer her perspective on the shifting dynamics of the European airline industry. Hosted by the Government of Spain, the Regional Ministry for Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Government of Andalucia, and Seville City Hall, Routes Europe 2025 highlights the growing international reputation of Seville as a hub for tourism innovation and air connectivity. Seville’s strategic location and vibrant culture make it an ideal destination for airlines looking to tap into new routes and markets. Seville Airport, which played a key role in the event, closed 2024 with record passenger numbers and operations, recording over 9 million passengers—a 13.7% increase from the previous year.
Arturo Bernal, Regional Minister for Tourism and Foreign Affairs of Andalucia, proudly noted that the region is now synonymous with growth and profitability in the aviation sector. With six competitive airports across Andalusia and an anticipated record 21 million air seats offered in 2025, the region will soon operate more than 530 routes connecting it to 172 airports in 37 countries. José Luis Sanz, Mayor of Seville, emphasized that hosting Routes Europe 2025 is a tremendous opportunity to showcase Seville’s strategic importance as a gateway to Andalusia, Extremadura, and southern Portugal. His remarks reflected the city’s readiness to serve as a key hub in Europe by combining tourism, business, congresses, and sustainability.
