In a captivating viral video shared on social media, a helicopter passenger on a helitour was caught attempting a perilous act by grabbing the ceiling mounted rotor brake. The incident, recorded over the stunning Grand Canyon in Arizona, United States (US), has sparked widespread concern.

In the footage, the helicopter pilot swiftly intervenes by pulling the passenger’s arm away from the brake, reprimanding the unidentified individual for their dangerous action. The pilot can be seen briefly pushing the rotor brake upwards to ensure its proper positioning before the alarming moment occurs.

Reacting to the incident with evident shock, the pilot urgently moves the microphone away from his mouth and firmly warns, “No! No! That will kill us!” while gesturing with his finger.

The video also features the helitour aircraft taking off, with passengers cheering as the chopper gains speed and flies over the rugged terrain. However, TikTok, where the video gained significant attention, took the matter seriously and issued a warning prior to showing the clip, stating, “Participating in this activity could result in you or others getting hurt.”

It is crucial to note that helicopter rotor brakes are intended for use on the ground. When activated, the lever stops the propeller from moving, ensuring safety during maintenance and pre-flight checks. If the passenger had pulled the lever during the flight, the consequences could have been devastating for everyone on board.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols during helitours and other aerial adventures to protect both passengers and crew members.
